50 Plus Crowd Metal Detecting Page!

Everything you ever wanted to know (well almost) about a metal detecting vacation is presented on this Webpage and related links.  If you do not own a metal detector yet, please read our document on buying a First Detector.  It will give you plenty of ideas about how to decide what to buy and where you can find them.  You may have a metal detector that is good for general coin hunting, but not surf, or water hunting.  Maybe you have a detector that is great for coins, but can't find gold nuggets.  Maybe you have one that finds nuggets, but cannot be used in the water.  The document will help you sort it all out, for the most part.

What you choose to do with a metal detector will definitely be influenced by the type of detector you own.  The most likely place for a vacation with metal detecting in mind is the beach.  This does not mean you are limited to coastal areas.  There are many thousands of lakes with old loot and jewelry just waiting for the right person to come along.  Away from the water, almost any detector can find jewelry and coins.  Of course, in the water, it is a different story.  Some machines have water proof coils, so as long as only the coil goes in the water, all is well.  Be careful, though, as some detectors loose a significant amount of sensitivity when they are operated in the water.  My take is, if you are planning on detecting in the water, use only a detector designed for that purpose.  If you want to learn much more about metal detectors read our article called First Detector.  Not only is it informative, but you'll also see why we sponsor the Kellyco Metal Detector Superstore.

Another venue for a metal detecting vacation can be with a metal detecting club event.  With a little research, you should be able to come up with a local treasure hunting or detecting club that you could join.  Frequently, club members team up and take vacations together in addition to their club sponsored events.  This is the best way to learn quickly and increase your chances of a successful hunt.  Don't forget magazines like Western & Eastern Treasures, Lost Treasure, and the relatively new (2005) American Digger.  These magazines provide treasure hunters with tons of relevant information regarding their hobby.

Yet, another really cool venue for a metal detecting vacation is Ganes Creek, Alaska.  It is truly on the edge.  The pay back can be extraordinary.  Would you believe 10 oz. gold nuggets?  You find it... you keep it!  You don't split the value with anyone.  Well, maybe you should tell your better half!

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to hit the beach.  Let's just get out there and have some fun.
